Why KuneKune Pork
KuneKune pork has been called "the Kobe beef of pork." KuneKune pigs grow slower than commercial meat hogs, but it is well worth the wait. Click here for more information about KuneKune pork.
Pricing
Slaughter Fee: $120 per pig
Farmer Fee: $3.50 per pound of hanging weight
Butcher Fee: $.90 per pound of hanging weight, plus any extras you request
Depending on the size of the pig, you'll get about 75 pounds of cut and wrapped pork from a whole pig. If you get the most basic cuts from the butcher, you final cost will be around $600. If you fill out your cut sheet like we did below to get lots of bacon and sausage, your final cost will be around $850. This works out to a total cost of about $10 per pound.
The Process
After your pig is slaughtered, it will be taken to Sweeney's Country Style Meats in Bremerton. They will determine the hanging weight of the pig. At this point, you can pay the Slaughter Fee and the remainder of your Farmer Fee to Chico Creek Farms. Sweeney's will ask you what butcher cuts you want, if you want anything smoked for an extra fee, and if you have any special requests. They will call you when your pork is ready to be picked up, at which point you can pay the Butcher Fee to Sweeney's.
