For general information on how to take care of your new pig, click here. For more detailed help, we recommend Small-Scale Outdoor Pig Breeding by Wendy Scudamore.
We feed our pigs a variety of different feeds, but mostly Purina Nature's Match Sow and Pig Complete Feed from Farmland Pets and Feed in Silverdale. We feed each pig about 1 cup each morning and 1 cup each night. Our cost to feed pigs is about $40 per month per pig. Our pigs also eat grass, alfalfa, and all table scraps except for meat and raw eggs. We recommend using a routine call every time you feed them (We say, "Suuuuu-eeee!") so that they become trained to come to you when you call them.
Our Kunekune pigs do not root up the ground, but when they are in heat they can push through flimsy fencing. We recommend using Hog Panel with T-posts for their outdoor areas.Â
If you have any medical concerns with your pig, we recommend Feist Veterinary Services.
For butchering, we recommend Sweeney's Country Style Meats in Bremerton.
